North of the harbor
of Sarafand lies Ras el Qantara. Located on a rocky promontory near
a charming natural cove, it owes its name to a ruined Crusader monument.
Only one course of stones and a broken arch survive, hence its Arabic
name "Qantara," meaning "arch." The monument
is reached by going through the main building at the Fouad Ville
touristic complex.
